Marta: USA has the best women´s football

Now the Americans are interested in you. what do you know about the women´s football in the USA?

“USA has the best women´s football in the world. They have won many titles with it´s national team, they have formed a league, but were unable to keep it. Today they plan to form a new league, which will keep women´s football in the USA. They already have the football, but currently it is mostly in universities. But there are many girls who play there and since they are so big in women´s football, they should have a well structured league. They have that in Sweden.”

Is it bigger than in Sweden?  Do they have the best women´s teams?
“Not yet. Because Sweden already has its own women´s league.”

How do you think it is to live in the US?
“I have no idea (laughter). Maybe I will be able to find out what it´s like in the future.”

What do you think about leaving the Umea?
“There is nothing formalized about that yet. I am still examining the possibility of a contract renewal. They have made a proposal, as did the US team, and my plans are to either stay in Sweden or to go to the US. But i have not stopped to think about how this will turn out. I have been living in Sweden for five years. People there treat me with fondness. I have friends and have had a long life there. And the girls from the team are like family to me.”
